On May 23, during the Francophone Outdoor Classroom Week, the Pedagogical Commons Factory association launched an outdoor classroom experiment at Friche la Belle de Mai.
On Saturday, May 25, alongside the General Assembly of the League of Education – Bouches-du-Rhône Federation at the Trois Lucs Valentine Social Center, we announced the second edition of the International Outdoor Classroom Meetings, to be held in Marseille from May 14 to 17, 2025. This announcement was made in the presence of representatives from the city of Marseille, the Aix-Marseille Academy, and associations for popular education and environmental education.
Organized every two years by the Pedagogical Commons Factory association, these meetings bring together teachers, academics, elected officials, association leaders, public agents, students, and families. These Meetings are an opportunity to demonstrate, on a national and international scale, the role that schools can play in helping young people experience and engage daily with ecological, urban, and living protection issues. In 2023, the first International Outdoor Classroom Meetings in Poitiers brought together 2000 participants and 1300 students.
Here are the initial guidelines for the event:
- Guest of Honor: Water – Fundamental to our lives, water is a critical issue for the city of Marseille and will be a major focus of the Meetings.
- Key Themes – Topics such as children’s rights, health, reading, and mobility will be addressed.
- Scientific Symposium – This will compare various outdoor classroom contexts, reflecting different visions of educational policies and their integration into the social and environmental fields.
- Workshops and Training – These will allow peer learning, sharing of knowledge and practices, and documentation under an open license.
- Experiential Activities – Participants will engage in educational walks, an outdoor fablab, participatory projects, a hackathon based on archives of popular education and environmental education.
- Child-Friendly City – After more than 1300 students enchanted Poitiers in 2023, all teachers and educators in Marseille are invited to conduct educational activities outside the classroom in public spaces, public facilities, and natural areas, independently or in collaboration with mobilized partners.
These meetings are a collective effort, welcoming contributions from anyone willing to participate.
