At the Educ@tech Expo in November, we met Jean-Noël Tronc, the CEO of CNED, who highlighted the institution’s challenges and its innovation strategy in educational technology.
He emphasized that CNED is part of the French National Education system, responsible for distance learning.
Indeed, with 78,000 students today, CNED is by far the largest virtual school in France.
Jean-Noël Tronc, CEO of CNED
CNED: The largest digital operator in France
It’s crucial not to overlook CNED’s role in higher education, with nearly 20,000 students, not to mention the 47,000 adults undergoing professional retraining through CNED’s programs.
As a state operator, CNED can rightfully claim to be « the largest digital operator in France, » as Jean-Noël Tronc mentioned.
« There’s no global equivalent of a distance learning operator offering asynchronous pedagogy across these three domains: primary, secondary, higher education, and continuous professional training, » he added.
CNED’s current dynamics align perfectly with those of the National Education system: « not using technology for the sake of it. »
« Cned leverages technology for the benefit of students, teachers, and parents; it’s about continuous pedagogical innovation, » he emphasized.
Over the next four years, as part of its performance contract finalized with its two overseeing ministers, Gabriel Attal and Sylvie Retailleau, CNED will have to support the entire French Edtech ecosystem. In this regard, the CEO wants to convey that CNED is the public operator leading the pedagogical and digital transition, working alongside top Edtech companies and possessing the best talents to serve distance education and its broader mission in educational technology.
This naturally involves constant improvement of its services, always seeking innovation for the benefit of learners.
