The European Council offers free, ready-to-use educational and teaching materials on how EU member states work together within the European Council and the Council of the EU.

The European Council provides free educational and teaching materials designed for various educational levels and age groups: preschool, primary, secondary, and higher education.

Preschool and Primary Education

Free educational resources for preschool and primary school students include illustrated stories, workbooks, learning tools like quizzes, and coloring books.

The educational module « Yooki and the Union of the Forest«  introduces children to what the EU is, why it was created, and the role of the Council and its member states. It narrates the origins of the EU through an imaginary world featuring Yooki the firefly and her forest friends.

Explore the interactive online story or order your free printed version of Yooki and the Union of the Forest.

Secondary and Higher Education

The European Council offers ready-to-use teaching materials explaining how EU member states collaborate within the European Council and the Council of the EU.

  • The Civic Education Module includes five ready-to-use lessons explaining how the 27 EU countries work together. The lessons employ tailored teaching methods, interactive learning, and gamification.
  • The role-playing activity « Step into a Minister’s Shoes«  lets students act as national ministers, negotiating with other EU countries in an active learning experience.
  • Europa Quest is an educational quiz tool designed to promote teamwork and mutual learning. It features a basic version for ages 9–14 and an advanced version for participants aged 15 and above.

Games and Quizzes

EUcraft offers a simplified yet realistic experience of EU legislation, available on web, iOS, and Android. Negotiate topics like universal chargers, single-use plastics bans, and eco-friendly initiatives, putting key EU decisions in your hands.

Visit the Council with Your School

A visit to the Council buildings in Brussels or a virtual tour can enhance teaching and learning experiences about the EU.

Visits are free for groups of at least 20 people and available in any of the EU’s 24 official languages. They are open to individuals aged 15 and above and last between one and two hours, depending on the program.
