It was during the Educatech Expo at Paris Porte de Versailles from November 13 to 15, 2024, that we discovered this valuable resource, Logbook, designed to assist teachers and their students.
INTERVIEW 🎙️Axelle Lhermitte and Mathieu Pichon are the co-founders of Logbook, a tool designed to enhance the efficiency of teachers’ grading processes. Axelle spent five years working for an organization dedicated to combating school dropout rates, while Mathieu is an engineer with a master’s degree in neuroscience.
« While working with an organization dedicated to combating school dropout rates, I became acutely aware of the challenges faced by educational systems and the potential that new technologies hold for addressing them » explained Axelle Lhermitte, sharing her motivation for founding Logbook.
Before embarking on this journey, Axelle and Mathieu interviewed teachers from various levels, particularly secondary and higher education, to understand their daily challenges. « What came through unanimously was a frustration with grading papers, » she emphasized.
Logbook is a tool designed to enhance the efficiency of teachers’ grading processes, saving them time while increasing the impact on their students’ progress.
From the users’ perspective, many positive reviews highlight the enthusiasm for this tool. Students enjoy being able to replay audio feedback and even share it with their parents. On the teachers’ side, Axelle Lhermitte noted the experience of a high school literature teacher: « Logbook saves him 15-20 minutes per paper, especially when sharing grades and evaluations through Learning Management Systems like Pronote or Ecole Directe. »
Although Logbook has not yet been subjected to formal research, a recent Canadian study suggests that « audio feedback, even when asynchronous, has a significantly greater positive impact on students’ perseverance and academic performance than written grading. »
Logbook offers a free trial version that allows users to create up to 50 recordings. Its subscription plans are highly affordable and cater to entire school districts, individual institutions, or even teachers who wish to subscribe independently to « save time and be more efficient in their grading. »
Today, Logbook boasts several thousand users from various levels of education, from secondary to higher education, and across all disciplines.
