Even in moderate amounts, she believes it&rsquo;s best&nbsp;<strong>not to add more screen time at school<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00ab\u00a0I\u2019ve tried to find ways to make my students as independent as possible, knowing that in kindergarten and early elementary school, they cannot yet read.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to&nbsp;<strong>digital tools<\/strong>, yes, you heard that right\u2014digital tools\u2014Elodie is able to achieve her goal!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What kind of \u00ab\u00a0digital\u00a0\u00bb tools are we talking about?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One example is small&nbsp;<strong>recordable audio devices<\/strong>, which allow Elodie to record instructions for the students. Budget-wise, there are many options, and it\u2019s an investment planned for the long term, especially when settled in a school, she points out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elodie works in a&nbsp;<strong>flexible classroom setup<\/strong>, meaning that one group is with the classroom assistant (<em>ATSEM<\/em>&nbsp;in France), while another group works with her. In this workshop-style format, students need to remember instructions, which is challenging at their age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00ab\u00a0For example, with the&nbsp;<strong>Bookinou<\/strong>&nbsp;tool, students can easily listen to instructions again and manage on their own.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These workshops focus on&nbsp;<strong>hands-on learning<\/strong>, while also fostering&nbsp;<strong>independence<\/strong>. The goal is&nbsp;<strong>not to have children in front of a screen throughout the activity<\/strong>, as these are short-use tools designed so that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Students don\u2019t need an adult\u2019s constant presence,<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The teacher can spend more time with those who need extra support.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>She shares several practical tools, which you can discover in the accompanying video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00ab\u00a0The advantage of digital tools is that children can&nbsp;<strong>self-correct immediately<\/strong>, without waiting for the teacher to check their work.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result,&nbsp;<strong>they learn faster and accomplish more!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Elodie, it\u2019s important to&nbsp;<strong>destigmatize the word \u00ab\u00a0digital\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong>&nbsp;because it is often associated with \u00ab\u00a0screens.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00ab\u00a0When parents visit my classroom, they realize that there aren\u2019t many screens\u2014just the interactive whiteboard and two or three tablets.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At&nbsp;Educatech Expo, held at&nbsp;Paris Porte de Versailles&nbsp;from November 13 to 15, 2024, we encountered several inspiring educators, whom we are eager to share with you through short videos and articles.
